Sustainability in healthcare: a key theme at EAHP 2024

Today we celebrate the first Hospital Pharmacy Day, a fresh initiative from the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP).

In recognition of the vital role played by hospital pharmacists, we take the opportunity to look back at our attendance at EAHP’s recent congress where for three days Bordeaux became the centre for sustainable healthcare in Europe.

On the EAHP website, Dr. András Süle, EAHP President welcomed visitors to the congress and announced the event’s focus on sustainability. He said:

“Hospital pharmacists from Europe and beyond […] join forces to further shape the future of our profession together – a future where new horizons, roles and competencies for hospital pharmacists will arise.”

  • Digitalisation of medical information sources should allow for the continuity of efficient pharmacy practice.
  • Quick and easy access to evidence-based information is essential to support clinical decision-making and reduce time searching for information.
  • Enhancing the continuity of evidence-based decision making from pharmacy school throughout a professional career should be prioritised.
  • Updated interactions knowledge can help to ensure safe practice and reduce medication errors.
