Errors involving different forms of benzylpenicillin
Errors describing confusion between the different salt formulations of benzylpenicillin (benzylpenicillin sodium and benzathine benzylpenicillin) have been reported to NHS England’s National Patient Safety Team. A statement has been added to the Important safety information section of these monographs in the BNF and BNF for Children to highlight the importance of ensuring that the correct formulation is ordered, prescribed, dispensed, and administered.
