- The standardised nomenclature policy has been updated to ensure our naming is appropriate for our full international user base, and to allow improved searchability on MedicinesComplete.
- E numbers and trade names appear as new separate sections rather than combined with synonyms.
- CAS registry numbers and chemical names also appear separately rather than in a single combined section.
- Expanded synonyms for improved search.

- Why are there substantially more monographs than in previous updates of Pharmaceutical Excipients?
Pharmaceutical Excipients has grown from 425 monographs to over 710 monographs due to changes to how sub monographs are presented.

- Where are authors of Pharmaceutical Excipients recognised?
There have been developments to how our Editors, International Steering Committee, and Contributors are recognised in Pharmaceutical Excipients. All Authors are now included on PharmaceuticalPress.com. We are now able to better showcase the experts who make Pharmaceutical Excipients the internationally renowned publication that it is today.
Group monographs changes
- What changes have occurred to the original group monographs?
Information relevant to a group of substances or considered to benefit from collective overview, such as group synonyms, pharmacopeia descriptions, or discussions of functionality, are given in ‘Group’ records. For clarity some information on the individual substances included in the group, such as nomenclature, is now given in single-excipient monographs; for example, the hydrocarbon aerosol propellants are discussed collectively in the record Hydrocarbons, with the nomenclature and structural information for butane, isobutane, and propane described in respectively titled records.
Supplier’s database retirement
- How can I discover further information related to proprietary excipients?
Within each monograph a new section has been created for tradenames. These tradenames hyperlink directly to the suppliers’ website. The legacy supplier’s database has been retired.
General references movement
- What changes have been made to how the general references are presented?
The general references can now be found as part of the specific reference list and are identified in the Useful Resources subsection.
