Celebrating 25 years of Palliative Care Formulary
This year Palliative Care Formulary (PCF) is celebrating 25 years since the first print publication (PCF1) in 1998. To mark this impressive milestone, an anniversary event was held at Pharmaceutical Press offices on 12th September 2023.
Guests attending included the founding editors (Dr Robert Twycross and Dr Andrew Wilcock) and past editorial staff, the current Editors-in-Chief, Editors, current contributors, and Pharmaceutical Press staff. It was an exciting and memorable afternoon and great to have past and present staff together to celebrate.
The afternoon included an informal presentation of the fantastic achievements of the editorial staff over the last 25 years, highlighting the eight UK print editions, international versions of PCF and how the PCF has adapted and evolved to meet the changing clinical environment and technology over the years. The trip down memory lane featured the PCF in various formats, e.g. CD-ROM, PDF, and how the website palliativedrugs.com hosted the online version of PCF for 18 years before it was acquired by Pharmaceutical Press and transferred to MedicinesComplete.com.
As part of the afternoon, guests were able to participate in a tour of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s museum before celebrating with afternoon tea.
PCF aims to be a major prescribing resource for all health professionals involved in providing specialist and general palliative care. The past and present staff were thanked for their dedication and commitment, and congratulated on the impact that PCF has had on the advancement of prescribing information in the field of palliative care and most importantly on the care of patients at the end of life.
The current editorial staff were encouraged to ensure PCF stays relevant, accessible, and useful to clinical colleagues for another 25 years whilst retaining the same high standards of clinical information and editorial rigour.
Finally, the success of PCF was celebrated with a toast and the founding editors gave informal speeches before cutting a cake and having photographs taken with various members of the current editorial team.
